Pallet racking systems began to evolve after World War II. In the early 1960s, pallet racking systems utilizing bridge-type stacker cranes and operator-controlled aisle stacker cranes emerged in the United States. In 1963, the U.S. pioneered the use of computer control technology in high-bay warehouses, establishing the first computer-controlled pallet racking system. Subsequently, automated pallet racking systems saw rapid development across the United States and Europe. In the late 1970s, Japan began constructing pallet racking systems; the pace of development accelerated rapidly, making it one of the countries with the highest number of automated pallet racking systems in the world today.
My country developed its first bridge-type stacker crane in 1966 (created by the Beijing Research Institute of Hoisting and Transport Machinery under the Ministry of Machinery Industry) and began developing its first computer-controlled automated pallet racking system-standing 14 meters tall-in 1974; this facility commenced operations in 1982. By 2002, the number of automated pallet racking systems in my country had exceeded 250. my country's first fully automated pallet racking system was the automated high-bay warehouse at the Beijing Automobile Manufacturing Plant, also developed by the Beijing Research Institute of Hoisting and Transport Machinery. During the 1990s, pallet racking systems experienced rapid growth and widespread application across my country.
